Last year the firm Feilden Clegg Bradley received four Building Design Architect of the Year Awards: public housing, private housing, arts/culture building, and best overall. The first category would definitely have gone to them for their Westfield Student Village, a grouping of student residences at Queen Mary, University of London. Six buildings in the northeast corner of the Mile End campus house 2,000 students in half as many rooms ensuite. Besides providing suitable accommodations for students, staff and academic visitors, the architects concentrated on the context and the space in-between the buildings to create a well-scaled village.
