The amazing success last year of Feilden Clegg Bradley was tempered by the death of Richard Feilden in a freak accident at his home in late January. Feilden was making a glade in memory of his father who had died only three months previous, at which time a tree he was cutting struck him in the chest and crushed him. RIBA president George Ferguson described him as "a great force for good in British architecture," his illustrious career marked by a drive to improve public architecture, particularly educational and housing. Westfield Student Village will be an appropriate legacy for an architect who, "bubbled with energy and commitment."
